Affligem Abbey

Affligem beer is beer with history. It all originated in the Affligem Abbey, which was founded by six knights who decided to become monks. Since the water quality wasn’t all that good back then, beer was a safer alternative because of the brewing process. So the monks, hospitable as they were, treated all their guests to a nice Affligem beer. And they still do to this day!

Did you know most of their proceeds goes to charity? This is part of the rules of the St. Benedict Black Monks, who care a great deal about hospitality and helping others.
