Founder Charles Delacre had his own pharmacy in Brussels. Back in those days, chocolate was often prescribed as a medicine. When chocolate was more and more being considered a delicacy, Charles opened a confectionery shop, that would become very popular in a very short period of time, and it would even become purveyor to the Royal Belgian Household.
