Droste chocolate
Droste is a Dutch brand that has been around since 1863, when Gerardus Johannes Droste opened his pastry store in Haarlem. From the beginning he made his famous Pastilles Droste, that are still being made and sold to this day. In the decades after his pastry store transformed into an internationally renowned chocolate brand. Check all the chocolate pastilles and cocoa we have in our assortment below.
Droste effect
The brand even created its own phenomenon called the Droste effect. In their 1904 design for a cacao tin they used a picture recursively appearing within itself. A women was holding a can of Droste cocoa, with her picture on it, and so forth. This effect was later used by other brands but also painters and artists. Not a bad result for a design for a Dutch chocolate maker right? And the picture is still being used for their packaging.
