First we start with the bread. In the Netherlands the average Dutchman lunches with a nice slice of fresh bread with cheese or peanut butter. In the USA this tastes a bit different. The American bread is white, spongy, salted, reasonably tasteless and is sold in plastic bags in the supermarket. So do not expect hot or cold bakers in the USA. Also, dark bread is not very popular there. In the USA they eat bread in two ways: by making sandwiches with vegetables, meat or cheese with a dressing for example. The second way is to toast the bread and eat it with jam, peanut butter or butter. Brown bread with Gouda cheese is unfortunately not easy to find.

Secondly, potatoes are also eaten differently in the USA. Here, potato lettuce, fries and mashed potatoes are verypopular. Ordinary boiled potatoes are rarely eaten here. With a meat dish, pieces of potato are sometimes cooked in the oven along with the meat.
